This dynamic site is the culmination of more than 15 years of developing original content for students of all ages to tell the story of America’s now almost 250 years of independence. All of the stories were and will continue to be written by humans and not artificial intelligence. Many are based on first person interviews and proprietary multimedia from visits to locations around the country and in 2009, from Normandy, France to cover the 65th anniversary of D-Day. As Judy Miller, co-founder and editor of Stories250, stood on Omaha Beach listening to D-Day veterans tell of their experiences on that day, Judy committed to keeping WWII history alive. To that end, one section on Stories250 is dedicated to the “People of WWII” in which their riveting stories are told. Judy’s dedication motivated her to produce a full length documentary in 2025 about Cornelia Fort, the first woman pilot to die in service to the country and who was also in the air as a civilian pilot instructor in Honolulu on Dec. 7, 1941 as the Pearl Harbor attack began. Crosswinds; The Courageous Life of Cornelia Fort is a tab on the Stories250 homepage.
