Rosie the Riveter: Women Working on the Home Front by Penny Colman was published in 1995. In 2017 while interviewing Phyllis Gould, a ship welder during WWII, she said Penny Colman’s book was the best book she had read about the original Rosies. After reading the book, I understood why Phyllis recommended it. It’s very well researched with statistics about the six million women who eventually went to work in factories to help the war effort. A majority were 35 years and older, a surprising stat but one that Penny explains well. The book’s cover is beautiful as it is the image of Rosie that Norman Rockwell drew for the May 29, 1943 cover of The Saturday Evening Post.
