June 17, 2026 – Stories 250 was recently at the Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, Pennsylvania to cover Union Pacific’s ‘Big Boy 4014’ national tour to honor the nation’s 250th birthday on July 4, 2026. Big Boy is a massive steam locomotive that was built in 1941 and immediately put into service during World War II. Today, it’s the largest steam locomotive that is still operable. Union Pacific spent five years restoring the locomotive to her glory at their steam shop in Cheyenne, Wyoming. On June 15 and 16 in Scranton, approximately 60,000 people came to view the locomotive. While there, Stories 250 interviewed Megan Stevens, Steamtown’s public information officer. Steamtown is administered by the National Park Service.
