Sept. 2, 2026 – Stories 250 will be at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania on Friday, Sept. 11 to honor the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the nation. For the past 25 years, Judith Stanford Miller, Stories 250 editor, has covered events in Shanksville as the site was first acquired by the National Park Service and then developed into the Flight 93 National Memorial. The site is solemn ground and a beautiful tribute to the heroic 40 passengers and crew of United Flight 93 who fought valiantly to wrest control of the airplane from the terrorist hijackers. Their target was likely the U.S. Capitol in Washington. The terrorists purposely turned the plane upside down and at a speed of more than 400 miles per hour, crashed the plane in a field in rural Pennsylvania. Few human remains were recovered. Families of 9/11 victims will also honor their loved ones at ceremonies in New York City and at the Pentagon.
