March 6, 2026 – The National WASP WWII Museum in Sweetwater, Texas will show Crosswinds, The Courageous Life of Cornelia Fort on Friday, April 17, 2026 as part of their annual Homecoming reunion celebration. Almost all of the 1,074 women who became Women Airforce Service Pilots, the WASP, trained in Sweetwater at Avenger Field where the museum is located. Cornelia was one of 25 original members of the Women’s Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron, the WAFS, who were more experienced pilots and began ferrying planes for the U.S. Army Air Forces after a brief orientation period at the Newcastle Army Air Base in Wilmington, Delaware. The WAFS came under the umbrella of the WASP in August 1943 after Cornelia died. For more information on the WASP Homecoming, visit the National WASP WWII Museum 2026 Homecoming.
